If you’ve ever tried growing an Instagram account, you will know it is a lot of work and it’s not something that happens overnight.

In the past few months I’ve put a lot of effort into my Instagram and it’s definitely paying off.

So I thought today I would share with you 7 things I do to grow my Instagram account and to gain organic, real followers.

I’ve shared lots of Instagram tips lately, like how to get your first 1000 Instagram followers, how to use hashtags and some Insta hacks you probably didn’t know.

But in this post I’m sharing things that I do constantly in order to keep up and continue growing an online presence on Instagram.

Let’s get into it!

7 Things I do to Grow on Instagram

1. Post consistently

You have probably heard this a million times before – but that’s for a reason. Consistency really is key!

Once you start posting consistently for a while, you will start to see real growth, especially coupled with the tips below.

It’s not easy staying consistent and creating quality content, but it is totally achievable. I have here a list of 45 Instagram stories ideas to get you out of the creative rut.

My next tip also goes hand in hand with staying consistent.

2. Batch content

I don’t take photos every single day, because realistically – as a mom – I wouldn’t have the time to do that. So my approach to this is to batch my content.

What this means is I set aside a few days of the week when I take a whole bunch of photos.

For example, I do my makeup and hair and that’s the day when I’ll take lots of outfit photos that I will then share on my Instagram feed throughout the week.

It is just not sustainable, in my opinion, to do that every single day. So set aside some time in your weekly schedule specifically for taking Insta photos.

This is life saving!

3. Be active on stories

Even if you don’t necessarily post on your main feed every single day (which you should actually aim to do in the beginning of your growing journey) – try to be consistent daily on your stories.

I love stories because they don’t need to be so “formal” or put together. You can take behind the scenes pictures, little time lapse videos, anything you fancy sharing with your audience.

It really helps to build that community, for people to get to know you better and, most importantly for growing, to get that valuable interaction on your account.

Use polls, questions, quizzes – all of these help!

When your account gets a lot of interaction, Instagram will promote your posts to more people on their feed.

4. Research hashtags regularly

I have shared lots of hashtags tips in the past, but one thing that I do as often as I can is to research and update my hashtags.

I will click on the hashtags that I am currently using to see which ones perform well for me. Meaning photos that are in the top 9 for that hashtag.

Obviously, I will keep the hashtags that perform well.

I will also check if any hashtags have suddenly become way too popular and I get lost in a sea of posts – then I will remove it from my list and look for new ones.

Optimising your hashtags is so important for growing faster and reaching more people.

5. Niche down

Funny thing happens when you start to post daily. You notice that some posts perform really well, while others not so amazing. That’s fine!

It’s a really good place to start for learning how to niche down.

When I started I was posting very randomly: an outfit photo, a corner of my home, my dinner, me and my child, a landscape photo, a mug photo etc.

After a while, I noticed that my outfit photos were getting sooo many more likes and comments than my other ones. Clearly, that’s what my audience was mostly interested in.

So I switched my content and I niched down.

I now mostly post outfit photos. That was the moment when my account started to see real growth.

This doesn’t mean you cannot post anything else.

I still post home photos and other pictures that I like, but my main focus is getting those outfit photos posted every week.

6. Interact, interact, interact

Social media is, well, social.

I have made so many amazing friends on there and I love having other moms to chat to, seeing what they’re up to and just generally be a part of that community.

If you want your account to flourish, you will need to be involved, like and comment on other people’s photos, watch their stories, inspire each other, share things you resonate with.

In general, just be social.

7. Respond to DMs and comments

If someone takes the time to write a nice comment or send you a question or a lovely DM, I feel like it is nice to give appreciation and respond back.

I try my best to get back to every single DM or comment.

Not only does it help boost your account’s interaction, it also helps you build friendships and ultimately, grow your account.
