Through massively decluttering my home and my wardrobe in the past year or so, I have gotten rid of many items. Things I realised I wasn’t wearing, didn’t need, didn’t fit my body, didn’t flatter me, or just didn’t make me feel good.

Somehow, I ended up with 44 items in my autumn capsule wardrobe. But this is in no way me saying that 44 items is the perfect number by any means. To be honest, this is the number I just randomly seem to have stuck on, and I’m excited to show you what’s in there. So let’s get started!

My 44-Item Minimal Capsule Wardrobe for Autumn

In these 44 items, I have included tops, bottoms, leggings, shoes, coats, and accessories like sunglasses and bags. Anything that’s off-season is not on this list as those are stored away.

Since curating my closet, I have realised that actually having some plain, simple basics makes a huge difference.

I used to always get super cheap basics and then spend more on trendy items. In reality, the basics are the things that I wear the most—and the things that make me feel the best as well. So I decided to invest in some really good quality basics.

3 long sleeve tops

I have an Adanola simple grey long sleeve; it’s a super soft fabric, and it’s really lovely to wear. And I also have it in black

Then I have a simple white long-sleeve as well with a really nice ribbed fabric; this one’s from the T_Store (*previous PR gift), which is a really lovely quality shop.

1 shirt

I have a simple white shirt (similar); I’ve had this for years and years. It’s from New Yorker, a German brand that also has shops in Romania. This item has such a nice, flowy fabric. I do wear it a lot more in spring and summer, but I do layer it sometimes in autumn as well, so this went in my wardrobe too.

1 hoodie

My hoodie is a really simple one that I obviously wear a lot as a toddler mom. It’s an H&M basic, and I find it really nice and cosy.

1 check shirt

I think this one is such a nice staple for autumn. And when I say staple, I mean for myself. I know there are all these trends on the internet—a “must-have” or a “staple piece”—but it truly depends on you. What’s a staple for me might not be a staple for you.

In my case, I wear this shirt very often. It’s, I think, from Sainsbury’s, so TU Clothing, and I got it maybe two or three years ago.

Now, let’s move on to knitwear. I love my knitwear, and I will be the first one to admit that I used to have way too much knitwear in my wardrobe that I wasn’t truly wearing. So, I have pared down to just the items I actually love and wear, and I’m excited to show you.

1 long cardigan

I have an H&M cardigan. It’s a long-line one, which is really lovely to wear with leggings.

Some of the items I have are for when I want to feel more put together. Then some of them are for when I want to feel cosy. This is one of those cosy items—I’ll combine it with leggings and trainers, and I’m good to go run around after my toddler.

7 jumpers and cardigans

Next, I’ve got a blue jumper from Marks and Spencer. I think I bought it last year. It’s such a lovely piece with a waffle type of knit. I find the texture really appealing to me for some reason.

Next, I’ve got an Adanola jumper that I also wore so much last year, so I’m excited to wear it again this year. It hasn’t been as cold so far, so I haven’t worn it yet, but I know I’ll get so much wear out of this. It’s just a lovely grey knit and a beautiful quality, and I love wearing it.

I actually realised I love grey and beige knits for some reason. Sometimes, we feel like, “Oh, I need to have a lot of variety of colours in my wardrobe.” But I started to ask myself, “Am I wearing all of those colours, or do I always gravitate towards the greys and the beige?” And it turns out, I love neutrals. So, I decided to stick to those neutrals in my wardrobe because those are the pieces I actually wear a lot.

Next, I’ve got two Zara jumpers that I love and wear often. I bought one of them, I think last year, from Vinted. I love a stripy jumper and this one is long (similar), so it goes really well with leggings. The other Zara jumper has some pom-poms on, which I find so cute (similar). I love it. I think I bought it when we were living in Romania, we hadn’t moved to the UK yet, so it must have been like 6 years ago or something.

The next knit is a thin one, from Primark. I bought it a few years ago—maybe three years ago. It’s just a simple rib-knit fabric, it’s got a V-neck, and it’s just one of those really comfy pieces, like a basic, that I do wear very often as well.

Then I’ve got a couple of Sézane pieces that I just absolutely love.

The thing is, yes, I’ve been on this minimalism journey, but I’ve always been into fashion. So I’m trying to find a good balance for myself—where I want to be more intentional, but equally, I love pieces that make me feel good. My wardrobe is more than just a functional one.

I keep my two Sézane pieces folded because I did receive some comments from you recommending that I fold my knitwear. At the moment, I don’t have space to fold all of my knitwear, so some of them are on hangers. But I really appreciate all the helpful comments you guys have left; I’m honestly learning from your comments so much as well.

So, I have a Sézane Léontine jumper that I got quite recently. A lovely piece and really lovely quality, it’s a thinner knit made of 100% cotton but still quite heavy. It’s another stripy one, but this one’s just slightly shorter than the other one. It also has buttons and a V-neck—it’s just beautiful and I love wearing it.

And I was going to declutter my Sézane Gaspard cardigan simply because I thought the maintenance would be too high as I thought I’d have to hand wash it every time. But you guys have given me so many good tips on taking care of wool knits.

One of you said, “You actually have a hand wash program on your washing machine that’s special for wool knitwear,” and I mean, you probably changed my life here. So, I’ve decided to keep it because I do love it.

I had previously shrunk a Sézane jumper, and I didn’t want to do the same with this one. It’s so soft and just such a nice piece. But you guys influenced me to keep this, and it’s still in my wardrobe.

3 sweatshirts

Two of my sweatshirts are from Primark, and they are the same style, just different colours – a black one and a grey one, as this is a colour I really love to wear. I got these maybe a couple of years ago or so, maybe even more, and they have held up really well.

Then I have a blue H&M one that I had for years. I just like the colour; I feel like I’m quite drawn to this blue colour, so I love having it in my wardrobe.

4 T-shirts

There are four T-shirts in my autumnal wardrobe.

One is a simple grey T-shirt; it’s like a boyfriend one, by the T_Store as well (*PR gift), which is, again, really lovely cotton quality.

I have one that’s probably my favourite one—it’s the white COS clean cut T-shirt. It’s such a nice shape and a sturdier cotton, I just find it really flattering. I wore it so much during spring and summer, and it’s a really good layering piece in autumn as well.

And then I’ve got two more fitted T-shirts, a black one and a white one, from H&M, and they are microfiber, I believe.

4 leggings

I used to have more leggings, but I have decluttered a lot of them.

So I have a plain pair of black leggings that are Lululemon. Then I’ve got a pair of Adanola leggings in midnight blue—they’re just their basic ones. I just love the quality of either Adanola or Lululemon; they are my go-to.

Then I’ve got Adanola leggings in olive green, which I find to be a really lovely shade for autumn. And I also have a pair from ASOS, bought a long time ago. I do love the blue colour of them. They’re kind of a ribbed fabric as well.

4 pairs of trousers and jeans

When it comes to this category, I’ve got a pair of grey trousers. They are—I wouldn’t say super fancy, but just more put together. I actually got them from Tesco, of all places, from F&F, a long time ago. I’ve recently tried them on, and they feel really nice. It’s a soft fabric but still a bit structured. They go well with the white COS T-shirt, for example, and a pair of casual trainers.

And then I’ve got a pair of H&M jeans. I think they are mom-style jeans, if I remember correctly. I haven’t worn these as much as my other ones, so they’re a decide-later—I will decide later what I’m going to do with them. In the meantime, they are in my autumn wardrobe.

I also have two pairs of proper denim jeans, both from Stradivarius. They are slim mom jeans. I find the fit very flattering, and I feel like it fits my body shape really well. I’ve got them in the lighter blue colour and also in the darker denim—I think it’s actually the medium wash.

1 gilet

I have a Bershka little gilet vest. I bought it a very long time ago, and I still wear it every single autumn and in winter as well.

3 longline coats

One of my coats is a pink one by Reserved, and it’s a wool blend one. I also have a Primark one in a camel colour. I’ve had it for years, but it’s still holding up well. And then I’ve got a grey one. I got it a year or two ago from Tesco, so it’s F&F.

1 blazer

The blazer I have is a cream one from H&M that I’ve had for a long time.

4 jackets

One of my jackets is by Mountain Warehouse and it’s actually a plain raincoat (similar). I mean, quite a staple if you’re in the UK, isn’t it?

I have a black teddy jacket, which is from H&M. It’s like a sporty one, so it’s also good for running in winter.

I also have a beige teddy jacket that I love, love, love (similar). It’s from F&F by Tesco as well, and I bought it a few years ago, but I’ve actually seen they still make similar ones.

My fourth one is a checked one from Primark and I had it for four years or even more, and I just love it (similar).

1 bag

I currently have just one bag. It’s the one I use every single day and it’s a leopard print bag from Finnson. I realised I wasn’t using any of my other ones, so I decluttered them and kept this one. It’s a handy one as it connects to the baby pram as well, which makes things easier when I’m out and about with my daughter.

4 pairs of shoes & 1 of sunglasses

I have two pairs of Chelsea boots: one is brown from Deichman, and one is tan, like a suede, from Asos.

I also have two pairs of white trainers, one from M&S and one from Sketchers.

And I have a pair of sunglasses.

In this list, I didn’t include the pyjamas, and I also left out the sports crop tops or sports bras, my Lululemon running jacket and some little vest tops, mainly from the T-Store, that are good layering pieces under clothes.
