Today I decided to do a wardrobe reset, and I’m taking you along with me, so let’s start decluttering! I’m going to go through each category and show you what I’m keeping for winter, what I’m letting go, and what I’m swapping around for the season.

I’m writing an impromptu article today, which is a bit of girl chat. I thought it might be useful to share with you the thought process I go through when I declutter.
A messier wardrobe is kind of what happens after the holidays, but now it’s back to school for the kids, so I’m doing a little bit of a home reset all around.
To start with, I took everything out of my wardrobe, gave it a wipe, and I’m going to start again.
I don’t often do this—take everything out of my wardrobe—because I have found in the past that this can be quite overwhelming.
When I first started decluttering, taking everything out felt like such a big mountain to climb—literally a mountain—that I would often just give up. I’d end up putting everything back in because I didn’t feel like going through all of that.
So, sometimes I’ll just do category by category—just my jeans or just T-shirts—and just go through each one.
But today, I’m just taking everything out. Because now I have fewer clothes, I feel like it’s more manageable. It doesn’t stress me out as much.
I have mentioned that I have created a digital wardrobe for myself with mostly my winter clothes.
Keep reading below or watch the video:
The bottom drawer: Activewear + PJs
I have a Lululemon jacket for my activewear layering piece. I do find it very useful, and I do wear it a ton.
I also have my sports crop tops in the bottom drawer as well, plus some of those vest tops to wear underneath, so for me they are mostly layering pieces. Some are from the T-Store, kindly sent to me a while ago, and some are H&M.
Next to them, in the bottom drawer, I’ve got my PJs.
Long sleeve tops
I’m going to keep in my wardrobe three long sleeves and they are really good as thermals or just on their own.
One is T-Store, a white ribbed one (previously gifted). And then I have two Adanola ones—and black top and a lighter grey top. These are good layering pieces just with jeans or anything casual like that. So, I’m going to pop them back into my wardrobe.
Layering pieces
Next, I have a grey H&M cardigan that I have actually contemplated decluttering. I’ve had it for years, and I thought that it was not necessarily my absolute favourite.
But once I created the digital catalogue and started tracking some of my outfits, I realised that I actually wear it quite a lot. Not necessarily for days out or anything special, but I do wear it casually around the house.
Being quite long, it goes really nicely with leggings. It’s just one of those comfy pieces for days when I just want something really casual and comfy around the house. So it turns out, it’s one of that kind of comfort pieces that I want to hang on to.
Then I have a H&M hoodie that I’ve had for a long time as well, and it’s a beige one. Again, it’s such a nice comfy piece, especially if I’m going to soft play with the kids or something like that. It’s just a really nice one to have.
Shirts
Two shirts I have kept in my winter wardrobe, one white, an old one from New Yorker, and one checkered.
To be honest, I don’t wear the white one a ton in winter because it’s quite lightweight, but I do like it sometimes as a layering piece under maybe a cardigan or a jumper. It can be really nice.
The checkered shirt is a casual one as well; it was from Sainsburys, I believe, two years ago, but I wear it a lot.
Jumpers and Cardigans
It turns out I have nine pieces in this category. I definitely used to have a lot more jumpers, but I realised that I wasn’t wearing all of them, just the same ones on repeat, so these are the ones I’ve kept.

I have a Sezane cardigan in grey, and after I got it, I realised it’s such a great one, and I loved it so much that I decided to get another one. So I bought it in pink on Vinted.
Then I have another Sezane jumper, this time a stripy one that I feel like is such a nice classic piece. I’ve always loved a good stripe.
So these three are absolutely staying.
I have another stripy jumper, but I feel that this duplicate makes sense to me. This one is a bit longer, so I would wear it with leggings, whereas the other one I would wear with jeans.
I do think that sometimes you can have duplicates in certain categories, as long as they make sense to you. We’re all different; we all have different styles and lifestyles.
Then I’ve got an Adanola jumper that is really lovely, and an Arket alpaca jumper.
Next is a simple V-neck black jumper that’s really simple, from Primark. I’ve had it for years now.
I also have a blue jumper—I got so many questions in one of the recent videos I did on this one—and thank you for the kind words; that was really lovely of you guys.
It’s Marks and Spencer, and I got it one or two years ago. I really like the waffle-knit texture it has. With pieces like this that were in previous seasons, you can usually find them on Vinted, so that might be worth a try.
Another jumper I get asked about often is a pom-pom one (check it out in the video). It’s a Zara knit, but I’ve had it for about seven years or so. I got it a long time ago, back when we lived in Romania. But I have seen it on Vinted a few times.
So these cardigans and jumpers are going in the wardrobe, most of them on hangers. I know some people prefer to have them by category—you know, t-shirts, shirts, jumpers, but I like to organise them by colour. I just love the visual aspect of it so when I open the wardrobe, it’s all colour-coded, and it makes me happy.
Then I pop the Suzane ones at the bottom as I don’t want to hang them. They’re a little bit more delicate.
Previously, I have decluttered a few jumpers, like the Chicwish cardigan that I had. It was big and bubbly, but I wasn’t wearing it a ton, so I decided to sell that one.
Whenever I buy something new, I try to ask myself: is there something that I’m not loving in my wardrobe at the moment? Because I have found that if I don’t declutter consistently as well, and I’m just bringing stuff in, it’s going to soon get overwhelming again. So I’m trying not to get to a point like that anymore.
Sweatshirts
Next up, I’ve got three sweatshirts.
I’ve got a simple grey Primark sweatshirt and a black one.
I also have a blue one that I’ve noticed I don’t wear that often anymore, though I used to wear it a lot. I do love this blue colour, and I tend to gravitate towards it.
I’ll have to see if I wear it. If I don’t in a few months, then I might declutter it, but for now, I’m keeping it on probation.
T-shirts
In this category, I have two microfiber ones from H&M, which I tend to wear more in spring and summer. Yet I’m keeping them in my winter wardrobe just as layering pieces.
Then I have two more t-shirts.
One is a COS clean-cut T-shirt and it’s brilliant, it’s my favourite of all time. I’m considering getting some more colours in spring because I feel like it’s such a nice staple.
The other T-shirt is a grey one, kindly sent to me by T Store. Their T-shirts are really lovely cotton ones and are really good basics in a wardrobe.
Leggings
Now, next up, let’s do bottoms, and I’ll start with my four pairs of leggings.
I have one old sage green ASOS pair that I realise I haven’t worn in a long time. The only reason I still keep it is to use it as extra workout leggings, but I haven’t worn it lately. I like the colour more for spring, so maybe I’ll wear it more next season—that’s what I tell myself. I’ll keep it for now and then see how I go.
Things like these became more obvious by keeping a digital wardrobe because I get to see what I’m actually wearing.
You know how sometimes we have this skewed perspective of what we wear and what we don’t? At least, I found that I do. Sometimes I feel like, “Oh, that’s such a useful piece to have,” but I never wear it. So, having a digital wardrobe made me realise that, actually, yeah, it is a cute piece, but I don’t wear it.
Then I have a pair of leggings by Adanola—it’s an olive green colour—and I really love them. I also have the Adanola leggings in midnight blue. These are the two leggings I wear a ton, along with a pair of black Lululemon Align leggings, just the basic ones.
I used to have many black leggings in my wardrobe, but I would only wear maybe one or two pairs. Now, I have just one pair. I realised I don’t need to have 10 different pairs of black leggings.
Trousers
Next, I have some smarter trousers that I don’t wear a ton, but they’re one of those pairs I like to keep in my wardrobe for when I need something a bit fancier—like when I’m going to the bank or a similar occasion. So, I’m keeping these, nicely folded away.

Denim
Moving on to denim, I have one pair of beige denim. This pair has been on my “I’m going to wear it soon” list, but I haven’t worn it yet.
I think I started my digital wardrobe in September or October—somewhere around there—and I haven’t worn these once since then. I like their look, but for some reason, I don’t seem to gravitate towards them. Maybe they’re more of a spring-summer kind of piece, I’m not sure. So this is another one of those pieces that’s currently on probation.
Recently, I’ve decluttered a pair of Stradivarius Slim jeans and kept the trusty ones that I’ve worn to death. They’re also Stradivarius, slim mum jeans, in a light wash. I just love these so much and wear them a ton.
Another pair of jeans, that I’m wearing right now, is Levi’s and I got it on Vinted. I really wanted to get a pair of straight Levi’s in more of a brighter blue.
These are the Levi’s rib cage straight jeans—I think that’s what they’re called—and the colour is Jazz Pop Blue. I love them and have been wearing them often since I found them on Vinted.
Blazers
I have an H&M beige blazer that I’m keeping. I haven’t worn it a lot in winter, but I do think it’s a really nice staple for spring, especially as it’s quite light.
Jackets and Coats
I have a coat that I’m definitely letting go of. I have had it for a long time, I got it about seven years ago, back when we were living in Romania. Though I still love it, it’s just a bit too tight on me now. It’s an extra small and though it still fits, it doesn’t work with a chunkier knit underneath. And in the winter, I do prefer a bit more room for layering. So, I’m going to try to sell it or, if it doesn’t sell, donate it to a charity shop.
I also brought up in my bedroom all my coats from downstairs to have a proper look and sort through them, so I can make sure everything in my wardrobe is something I actually reach for.
I’m putting one raincoat in my storage pile for now. It’s a great piece, and I actually “borrowed” it from my husband—don’t tell him! Just kidding, he knows.
It’s very lightweight, so it’s not really winter-friendly, but more suited for spring or autumn. I’ll store it in my baskets with out-of-season clothes, where I also have a checked coat.
Next, I have two vests or gilets and I do wear them occasionally in winter as layering pieces.
I really love one of them—it’s cute and I get good use out of it. The second one is also cute and has a hood, but I just don’t wear it a ton. I’m kind of on the fence about it.
I think I’ll keep it for now, and give it a chance this winter. If I don’t reach for it, I might let it go later. Or maybe I’ll just try it on and see how I feel in it—taking my own advice here! For now, I’ll pop them back into my wardrobe.
I also have two little jackets. They’re not super winter-friendly, but the black one is more sporty, so it’s great for layering or if I go for a run. I’ve worn the second one a few times, just as a jumper. It’s nice for layering underneath a big coat when it’s freezing, though winters in the UK aren’t often that cold.
Then there’s my trusty big puffer coat that keeps me extra warm in winter. This is my go-to for the cold. It was kindly gifted to me by JoJo Maman Bébé when I was pregnant with baby Sophie, which was two years ago now, and I still wear it a lot.
It actually came with an insert that fits inside the coat to keep the belly warm, but I took it off since I’m not pregnant anymore. Definitely staying in my wardrobe. I’ll take it back downstairs because it’s the one I grab the most.
Next, I have two coats. A camel one from Primark, and a grey one from F&F. They’re great, though not as thick as the other one. Winters here can be mild, so these are perfect for that.
I’ve been considering investing in a wool version of this style in the future, which I’d probably wear more. For now though, these two are great. If it’s really freezing, they’re not warm enough, but I do like their look and wear them often.
Shoes
I have five pairs at the moment. One of them is a pair of white Skechers trainers. They’re a little worn, but I keep them for running, so they’re staying for now.
At the beginning of last year, I got a pair of white trainers from Marks and Spencer. And even though I wear them a lot, they’re still in good condition. They are definitely one of my go-tos.
Also, a few months ago, I bought a pair of new trainers from New Balance. They have a bit of leopard print on them, and I just love them so much.
And then I have two pairs of ankle boots, kind of a light beige one and then a tan brown pair.
45 Item Capsule Wardrobe for Winter
On my digital wardrobe app, it does say I have about 45 items in my winter wardrobe at the moment. I feel like I’ve gotten my wardrobe into a pretty good capsule state as I still feel like I have a lot of options of things to wear. It’s not restrictive in any way, and it’s not an overwhelming amount of items either.
I do find that I wear a majority of my wardrobe consistently. And that was my goal. I didn’t want to have in there a lot of pieces that I just don’t wear.
I hope this was helpful in a way, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
