Now that autumn has rolled around, I felt like doing a deep cleanse of my wardrobe and getting rid of a bunch of things that I’ve had for years and hadn’t worn much lately. So today we’re doing a wardrobe clear out for fall together.
If you’re interested, there’s also a video all about it on my Youtube channel. Now let’s get on with cleaning our closets, shall we?!
STEP ONE
Make yourself a cup of something nice (I went for a cappuccino, surprise-surprise!) and play some Youtube vlogs or have something running in the background. It really helped me carry on with clearing out the closet and not giving up mid-way.
STEP TWO
Pull out EVERYTHING from your closet. I laid everything on my bed and it was much easier to take a good hard look at everything I owned.
STEP THREE
Take each item of clothing and think if it still fits you, if you’ve worn it in the past year, if you think you would ever wear it again, if you would buy it again if you saw it in a store right now (that’s a good tip I read somewhere and that worked really well for me) and if it fits with your style at the moment. If the answer is no to any of these questions, get rid of it!
STEP FOUR
Put the seasonal items in a separate pile and store them away. For me, I took all the summer dresses and shorts and things I knew I would definitely not wear until next year and I stored those at the top part of my closet, so that they don’t take up space in your everyday closet.
STEP FIVE
Organize by categories (sweaters, trousers, short sleeves, long sleeves etc.) and colour coordinate a bit. I find this to be super helpful when I’m trying to find something or if I just want to take a quick glance at my closet for an outfit idea for that day.
STEP SIX
Give all the clothes you don’t want anymore to charity. Other people will definitely enjoy them more than you do at the moment.
Hope you enjoyed going through this process for a wardrobe clear out for fall. I hope you find the motivation to do the same for yours. Now I feel like I know what pieces I’m still missing from my fall wardrobe and I have the space to add them this season. And what better reason to clear out your wardrobe than to have more room for shopping, haha! 🙂
